WordSmith › Social Media-In-Chief?
Words of the Day
“I’ll need you to help as we create a campaign that’s farther reaching, more focused, and more innovative than anything we’ve built before.” – President Barack Obama in an e-mail launching his re-election.
Obama Uses Facebook, Twitter To Rally The Vote
Call the prez the Social Media-in-Chief. President Barack Obama yesterday announced his 2012 re-election bid, and he again has reached for social-networking tools like he did in the 2008 election.
Obama’s campaign Web site, www.barackobama.com, encourages supporters to “Get In with Facebook.” Using Facebook Connect, users can pledge their support via their Facebook Wall, and encourage friends to do the same. Obama’s Facebook page has about 19 million fans.
Supporters can also say they’re “in” via Twitter or e-mail.
In a Monday e-mail, Obama said he is “focused on the job you elected me to do, and the race may not reach full speed for a year or more, [but] the work of laying the foundation for our campaign must start today.”
“In the coming days, supporters like you will begin forging a new organization that we’ll build together in cities and towns across the country,” he continued. “And I’ll need you to help shape our plan as we create a campaign that’s farther reaching, more focused, and more innovative than anything we’ve built before.”
Obama’s 2008 election focused strongly on social networking, leveraging the power of Facebook and Twitter to get the word out.
No Republicans have formally entered the race against Obama<, although potential candidates include Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, Tim Pawlenty, and Michelle Bachmann, among others.
WordSmith is energized that social media continues to be embraced by presidents, world leaders and thought leaders as a innovative tools to communicate, connect, rally and persuade!
